Young girl visiting Blackwell House

Families: Enjoy a lovingly crafted day out

Blackwell is a masterpiece of twentieth-century design and a fantastic place to bring all the family, plus it's free for children under 16.

During the school holidays, we run a lively programme of family and children's activities. Year-round children can get involved in the history of house with period costumes to dress up in, or complete our Children's Trail activity sheet as they explore.

Youngters (and adults) love our augmented reality app where they can 'meet' the Holt family at points throughout the house.

Just pick up an iPad from reception and explore Blackwell's history.

The Blackwell Tea Room offers quality locally-sourced Cumbrian produce - and a children's menu is available.

Enjoy freshly prepared meals and home bakes both inside or on the terrace overlooking the lake.

If the weather is good try a game of croquet on the Blackwell lawn - or children can work-out the time from our special sundial.

Whatever your reason for visiting Blackwell - sit back and enjoy - the house will do the rest.
