When designing her work, Lorna honours the generations of swillers before her by creating baskets in traditional patterns. She also endeavours to design and make contemporary pieces that show off the unique strength and flexibility of swill.
Lorna's baskets have a rich heritage and their production cannot be mechanised. They are made using the simple hand tools and techniques, and are extremely durable.
Lorna Singleton's work will also be showcased in an exhibition at Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry in Kendal from 19 January - 6 May 2019. If you would like to learn how to create these beautiful baskets, workshops will be taking place at the Museum in March and April 2019. Visit www.lakelandmuseum.org.uk for more information.
