Blackwell Within: A Photographic Evocation
29 April - 10 July 2011
An exhibition by Graham Murrell in celebration of Blackwell’s ten-year anniversary
Murrell is a distinguished photographer who has both exhibited and published widely. He has an unerring eye for, and skill in, capturing the transient, the often unobserved angle or juxtaposition, the fleeting shades of day; in short, the spirit of a place. Two of his recent projects include Light Spells at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge and Silence at Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
Blackwell, a house full of light and shadows, textures and detail, lends itself particularly well to Murrell’s benign observation. The exhibition shows Blackwell in a new, intimate and unexpected light, inviting the visitor to look with more careful eyes at a house that some will already know well, whilst for others it will be an invitation to discover the ‘secret’ life of Blackwell.
Blackwell Within: Tenth anniversary souvenir publication
The ever-changing relationship between the fabric and atmosphere of the house provides the focus for Graham Murrell’s current photographic exhibition at Blackwell and these 30 unique images along with words by Man Booker Prize nominee Sarah Hall, combine to create this souvenir publication. Both Graham and Sarah have generously donated all the profits from the sale of the book to Blackwell.
