DAWSTONES
Built in 1904 on Lickbarrow Road, Windermere. Designed by Dan Gibson for Alexander Millington Singh, a Liverpool merchant. The house has been divided into three and the middle one is a B&B called Gillthwaite Rigg, which has many original fireplaces and decorative plasterwork. Tel. 015394 46212


FAIRFIELD HOUSE

Situated on Brantfell Road, Bowness. It was the home of Annie Garnett and was built by Pattinsons. Annie Garnett designed the gardens. It contains a Voysey fireplace and is now a hotel. Open to non-residents by appointment. Access. Tel. 015394 46565 www.the-fairfield.co.uk

HOLBECK GHYLL COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL
Built in the 19th century, Holbeck Ghyll in Windermere was bought by Lord Lonsdale in 1888 as a hunting lodge. It is believed that it was he who commissioned the Arts and Crafts features, such as the stained glass and oak panelling, although the architect is unknown. Tel. 015394 32375
