Picasso and Co: Sherwin Ceramics

Display: 27 March - 21 June 2014

To coincide with British Surrealism Unlocked: Works from the Sherwin Collection at Abbot Hall, this small exhibition will showcase Dr Jeffery Sherwin’s stunning decorative arts collection. A wonderfully inventive pot by Pablo Picasso, bright, bold dish designs by Jean Cocteau and Desmond Morris, and a teapot by surrealist painter Samuel Haile are among the many varied delights this show has to offer.

Works on display by: Gerrit Rietveld, Pablo Picasso, Brentleigh Ware, Jean Cocteau, Kate Dorrough, Henry Moore, Derek Northfield, Elizabeth Fritsch, David Roberts, Ursula Mommens, Desmond Morris, Sutton Taylor, Samuel Haile, Rachel Sherwin and Janet Leach.

Launching alongside the exhibition at Abbot Hall is Dr Jeffrey Sherwin’s new book, British Surrealism Opened Up, in the words of the author, an ‘everyman guide’ to British Surrealism. The book is an easy-read history of the movement from its beginnings in Paris to its arrival in Britain. Exhibition special price £10, available at the Gallery or on mail order.
