Jonathan Chiswell Jones “My aim is to make practical and beautiful porcelain and lusterware for use in the home...I value the ideas of John Ruskin, the example of William Morris and the inspiration of Bernard Leach”
Jonathan trained at Farnham Art School, afterwards working for Joe Finch
at Appin Pottery in Scotland. He works from his own pottery at Pevensey
in East Sussex and exhibits his work regularly. Jonathan is a member
of the Sussex Guild, the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen and Wealdon Potters.
A mixture containing silver or copper salts is applied to the surface
of the glazed pot. This is then fired again in a kiln deprived of oxygen
and during the resulting chemical reaction a very thin metallic film
is deposited, which combines with the glaze to give the delicate and
beautiful lustre finish. |
